Market outlook
Rising Outlook 8/10
Charizard promos tied to premium products typically hold demand well, and supply becomes tighter after release once collectors open sealed boxes and graded population differences emerge. The card also benefits from being a premium Full Art promo rather than a standard booster pull.[1][2][4]
Next months. Likely to remain firm to moderately higher as near-term supply is absorbed and graded copies continue to set price anchors.
Long term. Likely to appreciate gradually if Charizard demand remains strong and graded 10 / premium-grade populations stay comparatively limited.
History
Mega Charizard X is a Mega Evolution of Charizard introduced in the Pokémon video games as part of the X/Y era. It is known for its black body, blue flames, and Dragon typing in the games, which made it one of the most iconic modern Charizard forms. In the Pokémon Trading Card Game, Mega Charizard X ex has been treated as a premium chase character because Charizard is historically one of the most collectible Pokémon and Mega Evolution cards often receive special full-art and promo treatments.[1][3][4]
This specific card, Mega Charizard X ex #023, was first released as a Black Star Promo exclusive to the 2025 Mega Charizard X ex Ultra-Premium Collection (the Mega Evolution promo set).[1][4]
- MEP #023 is a separate physical card from the in-set Mega Charizard X ex cards in the Phantasmal Flames expansion; it is not the same as 013/094, 109/094, or 125/094.[1]
- The card is a Full Art Black Star Promo and was exclusive to the 2025 Ultra-Premium Collection release window.[1][2]
- The official Pokémon website lists the card as part of the Mega Evolution Promo Cards line and shows its attack text, confirming it as an official promo card rather than a standard booster-set pull.[3]

Collector notes
Condition. Check the usual Charizard problem areas: centering, whitening on corners and edges, surface scratching on the holo/full-art finish, and print lines or texture issues visible under angled light. Promo cards from premium products can also show faint handling marks from packaging or insertion wear.
Storage. Sleeve the card immediately, then place it in a top loader or one-touch holder for storage. Keep it away from humidity, UV light, and pressure, and avoid removing it repeatedly from the sleeve because full-art promos can show edge wear quickly.
Authenticity. Verify the Black Star Promo numbering, the official Pokémon logo/typography, and the texture and print clarity of the full-art finish. Fakes often show dull colors, incorrect holo patterning, soft text, poor edge cutting, or missing the premium texture expected on an Ultra-Premium Collection promo.
