What the AI checks on Yu-Gi-Oh! cards

Calibrated for the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG: Secret Rares, Ghost Rares, Starlight Rares and vintage LOB printing.

  1. Centering L/R · T/B

    Front and back ratios measured precisely. Off-centre past 65/35 caps the card at a 9 before anyone looks at the corners.

  2. Corners 8 tips

    Sharpness, whitening, factory dings. One soft tip is usually the whole difference between a 9 and a 10.

  3. Edges 8 edges

    Edgewear and chipping on thin card stock. Chipping hides in the border. It is the most common reason a clean card comes back a 9.

  4. Surface 2 faces

    Secret and Ghost Rare scratches, foil peeling. Print lines and holo scratches are invisible in a phone photo and fatal to gem mint.

Centering on Yu-Gi-Oh! cards

Measures the exact pixel distance between borders against the 60/40 threshold for a top score. Vintage LOB and MRD cards often have inconsistent cutting, and the AI flags it precisely.

Secret and Ghost Rare surface

Finds micro-scratches, foil peeling and rainbow patterning defects on Secret, Ghost and Starlight Rares. Critical for pulls worth hundreds graded.

Edge and corner analysis

Detects corner whitening, edgewear and factory dings. Yu-Gi-Oh! cards are thinner than other TCGs, which makes edge damage more common and harder to spot.

Yes. It is calibrated for all Yu-Gi-Oh! eras, from Legend of Blue Eyes, Metal Raiders and Pharaoh’s Servant through modern sets. The AI accounts for vintage printing inconsistencies.

Can it detect scratches on Ghost and Starlight Rares?

Yes. The surface engine targets foil surfaces: Ghost Rare prismatic pattern defects, Starlight Rare micro-scratches and Secret Rare foil peeling invisible to the naked eye.

Should I send my Starlight Rare for grading if the TCGAI Score is 9?

A 9 on a Starlight Rare can still be worth significantly more than raw. Use the market estimate to check the price difference between a 9 and a top grade for your specific card.
