Market outlook
Stable Outlook 7/10
As a modern alternate art Secret Rare, the card benefits from steady collector demand but is likely constrained by ongoing supply and repeated openings of the set. Price movements should be influenced mainly by grading premium, character popularity, and set availability rather than gameplay necessity alone.
Next months. Likely to trade sideways with modest fluctuations, with graded copies outperforming raw copies if gem-mint demand remains healthy.
Long term. Over 1-3 years, raw copies may gradually stabilize or soften if supply remains ample, while clean graded examples could appreciate modestly if the card remains a favored collectible.
History
Buggy is a long-running antagonist from the One Piece manga and anime created by Eiichiro Oda. He is the former Buggy Pirates captain, a former Shichibukai, and later becomes the public face of the Cross Guild in the story's modern era. His popularity comes from being a comedic but surprisingly consequential character whose fortune, reputation, and influence often grow far beyond his actual strength.
First released in English in the One Piece Card Game set Emperors in the New World (OP09), which launched in late 2024; the base card is OP09-051 and the alternate art variant is the same card number with alternate artwork.
- This is a Blue Character card with 10 cost and 12000 power, making it a high-cost finisher or tempo piece rather than an early-game play.
- Its effect can remove an opposing Character by placing it at the bottom of the owner's deck, which is strong removal in One Piece Card Game because it bypasses many graveyard-recursion patterns.
- Buggy is a fan-favorite character, and alternate art versions for recognizable characters in major One Piece sets typically see stronger collector demand than standard versions.

Collector notes
Condition. Check for whitening on corners and edges, surface scratches on the foil treatment, centering issues, and print lines visible under angled light. Alternate art foil cards also commonly show micro-scratches, edge nicks, and faint roller marks from packaging. Because the card is English-language foil, even small surface defects can matter for grading.
Storage. Use a fresh penny sleeve and rigid top loader or semi-rigid holder immediately after opening. Avoid repeated handling of the foil surface. Store upright in a cool, dry environment away from sunlight and humidity. For long-term protection, consider a team bag over the top loader and, if grading is planned, keep the card untouched in a semi-rigid sleeve.
Authenticity. Verify the exact card number OP09-051 and the correct alternate art layout/foil pattern. Authentic One Piece cards should have consistent font sharpness, clean set symbols, accurate texture, and proper color saturation. Counterfeits may show blurry text, incorrect holo sheen, off-center borders, or flimsy card stock. Compare against a known authentic card or trusted high-resolution scans if uncertain.
