Market outlook
Stable Outlook 7/10
The regular copy should remain inexpensive because it is a starter-deck common with a reprint, while the premium Full Art/prize market should stay choppy but resilient if One Piece prize-card collecting remains active.
Next months. Base copies should stay near bulk pricing; premium variants may fluctuate with grading submissions and collector listings.
Long term. Over 1-3 years, the standard card is likely to remain low value, while authenticated Full Art/prize copies may hold or gradually appreciate if rarity awareness and One Piece collectible interest continue.
History
San-Gorou is the Japanese-name version of Black Maria's subordinate frogman-like Straw Hat Crew-themed card character "サン五郎" from the One Piece universe, representing the Wano/Onigashima-era disguise identity associated with the Purple Monkey.D.Luffy starter deck theme. In One Piece Card Game, the card is a Purple Character with Straw Hat Crew trait and a battle-oriented draw ability tied to reaching 8 DON!!, making it a useful midgame pressure piece rather than a lore-heavy character card.
First released in English in Starter Deck 18: Purple Monkey.D.Luffy (ST18) on October 25, 2024. The official card list identifies ST18-003 as part of the Purple Monkey.D.Luffy starter deck, and release listings place the set in late 2024.
- Official card name and number are ST18-003, with 5 cost, 6000 power, +1000 counter, Strike attribute, and Straw Hat Crew trait.
- The card was later reprinted in One Piece Card The Best Vol.2 (PRB02), which created multiple print versions of the same number.
- Market trackers list a premium Full Art / Prize Cards variant of ST18-003 at a very high value compared with the regular starter-deck print, indicating strong chase-card demand in special-product channels.
Collector notes
Condition. Check for whitening on corners and edges, surface scratches on the full-art foiling, print lines, centering, and edge wear from starter-deck handling. Full-art variants are especially vulnerable to scuffs, pressure marks, and foil scratching.
Storage. Use a penny sleeve plus rigid top loader or semi-rigid holder immediately, keep away from direct light and humidity, and avoid friction with other foil cards. For a Full Art copy, consider double-sleeving and long-term storage in a binder with non-PVC pages or a graded slab.
Authenticity. Verify the exact card text, set code ST18-003, correct One Piece Card Game back, and proper English print quality. Full-art prize variants should match known foil patterning and card stock; unusually dull foiling, off-color printing, wrong texture, or inconsistent borders are red flags. Compare against official card-list images and known market scans before buying.
