History
Venusaur is the final evolution of Bulbasaur, the Grass-type Starter Pokémon from Generation 1. As the fully evolved Stage 2 Pokémon, it represents the pinnacle of the Bulbasaur line, known for its massive flower on its back that blooms with age and absorbs sunlight for photosynthesis. Iconic in Pokémon lore as a powerful Grass/Poison-type with abilities tied to nature and energy manipulation, featured prominently in the anime, games, and trading card game since inception.
First released in the Pokémon Base Set in January 1999 in the United States by Wizards of the Coast, as part of the English-language debut of the TCG.
- Features the powerful Pokémon Power 'Energy Trans' allowing unlimited energy movement between Grass Pokémon during your turn, making it a staple in early Grass decks.
- One of the original 16 Holo Rare 'starter' cards from Base Set, highly sought after by collectors.
- Art by Ken Sugimori, the primary Pokémon illustrator, depicted in a dynamic pose emerging from foliage.

Collector notes
Condition. Check for centering (especially top/bottom due to power box), holofoil scratching/whitening on flower and body, edge chipping from binders, surface scratches on matte background; common flaws include print lines on flower petals and minor corner wear from play.
Storage. Use semi-rigid or magnetic top-loaders with sleeves (Penny Sleeves + Ultra Pro top-loader); store upright in cool, dry environment away from sunlight to prevent holo oxidation; avoid stacking without dividers.
Authenticity. Legit cards have crisp Wizards of the Coast copyright dot-matrix printing, precise holo pattern (shifting green/blue on leaves), accurate font kerning; fakes often have blurry text, incorrect energy symbols, off-color flower; check black light for fluorescent reaction on legit holos; graded/graded grading recommended for high-value copies.
