Market outlook
Stable Outlook 6/10
The card has enduring Pikachu demand but a large supply of raw copies. Prices for the common version tend to move gradually, while high-grade examples and the reverse holo variant can see stronger appreciation when demand for EX-era collectibles rises.
Next months. Likely to remain stable with mild upward drift for clean raw and graded examples, especially graded 9/10 copies.
Long term. Expect gradual appreciation over 1-3 years, with the strongest gains in top grades and the reverse holo/stamped version rather than the common non-holo card.
History
Pikachu is the flagship Electric-type Pokémon of the Pokémon franchise and the global mascot of the brand. Introduced in Generation I, Pikachu became the face of the games, anime, trading cards, and wider pop-culture presence due to its central role alongside Ash in the animated series and its status as the series' most recognizable character.
This English card was first released in the EX Power Keepers expansion in 2007. The card number 57/108 appears as a common Pikachu in the set, and the artwork traces back to earlier Japanese promotional printings before being localized for the English set.
- This Pikachu in EX Power Keepers is a reprint/localized inclusion of an earlier Japanese promotional Pikachu from a McDonald's campaign and later World Champions Pack usage.
- Although the base non-holo common version is modestly priced, a separate reverse holo/stamped variant exists and commands much higher collector value.
- Collector demand is driven more by Pikachu itself, set nostalgia, and variant differences than by competitive play value.
Collector notes
Condition. Check for whitening on the edges and corners, surface scratches, print lines, centering, and any play wear along the thin border. Common flaws include holo-like scuffing on the reverse holo version, edge wear from binder storage, and minor bends or dents. Even on the non-holo common version, strongly played copies can be sharply discounted because Pikachu attracts condition-sensitive buyers.
Storage. Store in a penny sleeve and rigid top loader or semi-rigid card holder, ideally with a perfect-fit inner sleeve for higher-grade copies. Keep away from humidity, sunlight, and temperature swings. For a collection set, use side-loading binders with archival-quality pages and avoid overfilling pockets.
Authenticity. Verify the set symbol, card number 57/108, font consistency, and print quality. Authentic copies should have clean official Pokémon TCG borders and correct English text layout. For reverse holo/stamped versions, confirm the stamp placement and foil pattern match genuine EX-era production; counterfeit copies often show blurry text, incorrect coloration, or off-size borders.
