Market outlook
Stable Outlook 8/10
Iconic HOF card with consistent collector demand; recent graded 8.5 sale flat, but vintage Bench holds value amid nostalgia boom.
Next months. Stable with slight upside on high grades; watch auction volume.
Long term. Strong appreciation for graded 9/10; mid-grades steady as entry point.
History
Johnny Lee Bench (born December 7, 1947) is considered one of the greatest catchers in MLB history, starring for the Cincinnati Reds (1967-1983) as the leader of the 'Big Red Machine.' Drafted 36th overall in 1965, he won NL Rookie of the Year (1968), two NL MVPs (1970, 1972), 14 All-Star selections, 10 Gold Gloves, and 1976 World Series MVP (.533 BA, 2 HR, 6 RBI). Career: .267 BA, 389 HR, 1,376 RBI, .991 fielding %.
Released in 1970 as part of Topps' flagship baseball card set, distributed in wax packs across the US.

Collector notes
Condition. Check centering (high numbers often off), corners for dings, edges for chipping/printing defects, surface for scratches/wax stains; centering is biggest killer for high grades.
Storage. Store in semi-rigid holders or top-loaders with UV protection; maintain 50-70% humidity, avoid direct light/heat; use card saver for shipping.
Authenticity. No reprints; verify vs. known images for print dots/alignment; graded/graded/graded slabs best for authentication; fakes rare but check seller rep and slab legitimacy.
