Market outlook
Rising Outlook 8/10
Demand for Pikachu chase cards tends to stay strong after release, especially for premium artwork and low-pull-rate variants. If supply stabilizes and grading populations remain constrained, collector demand should support gradual appreciation.
Next months. Likely to remain strong with volatility around set release waves, grading returns, and supply coming to market.
Long term. Over 1-3 years, high-grade copies should generally appreciate if the card remains one of the iconic chase cards of the set and if no materially more popular Pikachu artwork overshadows it. Raw copies may flatten before slowly strengthening again as sealed supply thins.
History
Pikachu is the franchise mascot of Pokémon, first introduced in the original Generation I games and rapidly becoming the most recognizable character in the brand. As a Pikachu ex card, this version represents Pikachu in a powered-up “ex” form, which is used for high-impact, premium chase cards. In the Ascended Heroes era, Pikachu ex is treated as a marquee collector and competitive favorite because Pikachu remains the most iconic and broadly collected Pokémon worldwide.
First released in 2026 in the Ascended Heroes set (English/International release). The German-language version would appear in the corresponding German-language release of Ascended Heroes for the European market, typically distributed through standard hobby and retail channels at set launch.
- This is a Secret Rare Special Illustration Rare (SIR), which places it among the hardest-to-pull cards in the set.
- Pikachu cards almost always command outsized collector interest regardless of playability because of the character’s popularity.
- The numbered listing 277/217 indicates a secret-number slot beyond the main set size, a common sign of chase-card status.
Collector notes
Condition. Check the corners, edges, centering, and surface first. Special Illustration Rare cards often show whitening on edges, print lines, surface scratches from factory handling, and minor corner dings from packaging or shipping. Holo texture and full-art surfaces make scuffs and roller lines more visible under angled light.
Storage. Store immediately in a penny sleeve plus rigid top loader or semi-rigid holder, ideally with a perfect-fit inner sleeve if grading. Keep away from humidity, heat, and direct light. For German-language copies, maintain original pack-fresh condition if possible, as language-specific chase cards can benefit from pristine presentation.
Authenticity. Verify correct set symbol, number, typography, texture pattern, and energy symbol details. Counterfeits often have flat or incorrect texture, wrong font weight, blurry text, off-color borders, and poor cut quality. Compare the German text alignment and accent/spacing with known authentic examples. For expensive copies, compare under magnification and use a trusted grading service or seller with strong provenance.
