Market outlook
Stable Outlook 2/10
Common cards from high-supply modern sets usually settle into bulk pricing, with small premiums for pristine graded copies. Interest may fluctuate with overall 151 nostalgia demand, but the card itself is unlikely to experience major independent appreciation.
Next months. Likely to remain cheap and liquid in raw form, with small fluctuations based on 151 sealed-product availability and grading market interest.
Long term. Over 1-3 years, raw copies should remain bulk-priced, while top-graded examples may hold modest collector value but are unlikely to become major investment pieces.
History
Spinarak is a Generation II Bug/Poison Pokémon introduced in the Johto region, first appearing in Pokémon Gold and Silver. It is based on a small spider and is known in the franchise for its web-building, ambush-style behavior and its later evolution into Ariados. As a card subject, Spinarak is usually treated as a low-rarity common Pokémon used to represent early-route wildlife and to support line-based collecting with its evolution family.
This English Spinarak card was first printed in the Scarlet & Violet—151 expansion in 2023, as card 006/078 in the standard English set release of the Pokémon TCG.
- This is a common card from a special subset-style expansion, but it is numbered within the main set checklist rather than a separate promo series.
- Scarlet & Violet—151 is a Kanto-focused nostalgia set, so a Johto Pokémon like Spinarak stands out as a non-Kanto inclusion among the broader set theme.
- As a common card, its value is generally driven more by sealed-product nostalgia, collection completion, and grading appeal than by raw rarity.
Collector notes
Condition. Common cards often come out of packs with whitening on corners and edges, light surface scratches, print lines, centering issues, and minor roller marks. For this card, check the black border edges carefully for chipping, inspect the holo-like gloss surface for scratching if present in a reverse holo version, and verify centering front and back. Because it is a low-value common, pack-fresh Gem Mint copies are disproportionately important.
Storage. Use penny sleeves immediately, then store in a top loader or semi-rigid holder for higher-grade copies. Keep away from humidity, heat, and direct light. For long-term storage, use archival binders with side-loading sleeves or rigid boxes with sleeves. Avoid frequent handling by the edges.
Authenticity. Authentic modern Pokémon cards should show consistent print quality, sharp text, accurate energy symbols, and proper card stock stiffness. Fakes may have fuzzy text, washed-out colors, incorrect border proportions, poor alignment, or a different texture. Compare font spacing and set symbol placement to confirmed images of the English 006/078 printing. For valuable graded or sealed-investment copies, prefer reputable sellers or graded/graded/graded authenticated examples.
