Market outlook
Stable Outlook 6/10
The card has enough character demand to support ongoing interest, but the set is modern and supply remains broad, keeping prices anchored unless the Cross Guild archetype becomes more competitive or Buggy's popularity spikes again.
Next months. Likely to trade in a narrow range with modest movement, especially around competitive metagame shifts and graded-copy visibility.
Long term. Over 1-3 years, the alt-art version may appreciate gradually if sealed supply is absorbed and Buggy remains a marquee character, but gains are likely to be moderate rather than explosive.
History
Buggy is a long-running One Piece character created by Eiichiro Oda. He is a former member of the Roger Pirates, later the captain of the Buggy Pirates, and by the events tied to the Cross Guild and the Four Emperors era he becomes one of the franchise's most recognizable comedic-villain figures. In the card game, this Leader card reflects his association with the Cross Guild by supporting Cross Guild-type Character cards.[1][2][7]
This Buggy Leader card was first released in the Japanese OP-09 set 'Emperors in the New World' and later released in English as part of the English launch of the same set in December 2024.[2][7]
- This is the first Buggy Leader card in the ONE PIECE Card Game.[2]
- The card's Leader ability lets you rest 5 DON!! and trash 1 card to play a {Cross Guild} Character from hand, making it a tribal support Leader rather than a generic standalone Leader.[1][7]
- The card is a Blue Leader with 5 Life, 5000 Power, and the Slash attribute, and it is legal in Block 3 tournament play.[1][7]
Collector notes
Condition. Check the usual Leader-card wear points: corner whitening, edge chipping, surface scuffs, print lines, and centering. Alt-art foiling can show scratches, roller marks, or faint indentations more easily than non-foil copies. Because this is a playable Leader card, shuffled-play wear and sleeve scuffing are common.
Storage. Store in a penny sleeve and rigid top loader or card saver, ideally with a perfect-fit sleeve first. Keep away from humidity, direct light, and pressure to prevent foiling damage and corner wear. For long-term value, avoid handling the surface directly and keep graded-worthy copies sealed in a protected storage box.
Authenticity. Verify the exact card number OP09-042, English text, correct Blue Leader template, and the official Bandai print finish. Counterfeits often show blurry text, off-color borders, poor foiling alignment, or incorrect card stock feel. For high-value alt-art copies, compare the shine pattern, font sharpness, and back coloration against a known authentic copy.
