Market outlook
Rising Outlook 8/10
Demand is increasing due to Elway's Hall of Fame induction, with graded 10 copies rising from $500 to $600+ in 2025. The card's extreme scarcity (SSP, <100 copies) ensures long-term value growth. Collector interest in elite Broncos legends and modern ultra-rare inserts continues to rise.
Next months. Next 3-6 months: Prices for graded 9–graded 10 copies expected to rise 5–10%, with raw copies stabilizing around $400–$450. Auction activity may increase as collectors seek rare modern cards.
Long term. 1-3 years: Prices for graded 10 copies projected to reach $800–$1,000+, with raw copies gaining 15–20% value. The card's scarcity and Elway's legacy will sustain upward momentum, making it a top-tier investment for vintage and modern collectors.
History
John Elway was a legendary quarterback for the Denver Broncos (1983-1998), winning two Super Bowls (XXI, XXXII) and earning five Pro Bowl selections. After retiring, he became a highly successful executive, serving as Broncos' General Manager and VP, where he helped build the team's 1990s and 2010s success. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest Broncos icons and a Hall of Fame-caliber player (officially inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2025).
This card, John Elway #DT-24, was first released in late 2021 as part of the 2021 Panini Donruss Optic Downtown football set, produced by Panini America in the United States.
- John Elway is the only player to win two Super Bowls as a quarterback and later as an executive (as GM of the Broncos)
- His 2021 Donruss Downtown card is a Serially Specific (SSP) ultra-rare insert, with extremely limited production (estimated under 100 copies)
- Elway's Hall of Fame induction in 2025 significantly boosted demand for his vintage and modern cards

Collector notes
Condition. Check for centering misalignment, edge wear, surface scratches, and corner dings. Common flaws include off-center printing (especially visible on the field design), micro-scratches on the glossy surface, and slight recoloring on the white borders due to age or handling. The card's ultra-glossy finish makes scratches more visible under light.
Storage. Store in a rigidity-improved top loader (e.g., Ultra Pro or BCW) inside a sealed archival sleeve (e.g., SBC or Magic Bag). Keep in a climate-controlled environment (65-70°F, 40-50% humidity) away from direct sunlight. Avoid stacking cards or exposing to moisture. For ungraded copies, consider optional graded/graded grading to protect and enhance value.
Authenticity. Fakes are rare but may have incorrect holographic logos, off-center printing, or inconsistent gloss. Authentic cards feature the official Panini/Donruss logo, precise field design, and correct serial numbering (SSP). Verify through graded/graded certification for graded copies. Reprints are unlikely due to the card's ultra-rare status; any unsigned copy with 'SSP' marking should be authenticated via third-party services.
