Market outlook
Stable Outlook 7/10
The card benefits from enduring character demand, but it is from a modern era with substantial supply. Prices for raw and lower-grade copies typically stabilize after launch hype, while gem-mint copies can retain a premium due to collector preference.
Next months. Likely to trade in a relatively narrow band unless a new competitive use, anniversary, or collector wave increases attention.
Long term. Over 1-3 years, the card should remain collectible and liquid, with best performance expected in graded 10 or equivalent top-grade copies rather than raw copies.
History
Mewtwo is a Psychic-type Pokémon introduced in Generation I and is one of the franchise’s most iconic legendary Pokémon. It is a genetically engineered clone of Mew, created to be an immensely powerful combat Pokémon, which gives it a long-standing reputation as a symbol of artificial power, intelligence, and moral ambiguity in the Pokémon universe. The Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex card uses the Team Rocket branding to connect Mewtwo with the criminal organization that values power and experimentation, reinforcing its dark, high-status narrative role.
The first printing of this card was in the English Scarlet & Violet: Destined Rivals set as Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex #231/182, released on May 30, 2025; the user-provided Scarlet & Violet 151 / 081/182 entry does not match the known official English card naming or numbering for Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex.
- Official English database listings identify Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex as a 280 HP Basic Pokémon ex with the attack Erasure Ball and the ability Power Saver.
- The card is part of the Team Rocket-focused Scarlet & Violet: Destined Rivals expansion, where it appears as a Special Illustration Rare rather than a Scarlet & Violet 151 card.
- The user-provided set/number combination (Scarlet & Violet 151, 081/182) appears inconsistent with official card database and price listings for Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex.

Collector notes
Condition. Check centering carefully, especially on the front and back borders; inspect corners for whitening, edge wear, surface scratches, print lines, roller marks, and holofoil scuffs; full-art cards commonly show visible surface handling marks and poor corner sharpness straight from packs.
Storage. Use penny sleeves immediately, then store in a semi-rigid or top-loader for raw copies; keep away from UV light, humidity, and temperature swings; for high-grade candidates, avoid repeated handling and consider an inner sleeve plus card saver setup for grading submission.
Authenticity. Verify the exact set symbol, card number, typography, and texture of the full-art/holo surface; fake cards often have incorrect font weight, washed-out colors, flat foiling, or missing texture depth; compare against official database images and be wary of listings that incorrectly label this card as Scarlet & Violet 151 or as number 081/182.
