Market outlook
Rising Outlook 7/10
Market data shows strong recent sales and upward movement in raw copies, while top graded copies retain premium pricing. Buggy’s popularity and the card’s chase status support continued collector interest.
Next months. Expect moderate volatility but continued strong interest, with raw and mid-grade copies likely to fluctuate while gem-mint copies remain premium.
Long term. Over 1-3 years, the card should hold collectible appeal and may appreciate further if OP-09 remains culturally important and no heavily disruptive reprint/market shift occurs.
History
Buggy is a major One Piece character, originally introduced as Buggy the Clown, a pirate captain with a long-running comedic but consequential role in the series. He is known for the Chop-Chop Fruit power, his exaggerated self-promotion, and his rise from early-series antagonist to one of the Four Emperors and leader of Cross Guild. In the trading card game, this card reflects his high-status, late-series prominence rather than his early villain identity.
First released in Japanese in Emperors in the New World (OP-09) in late 2024, with the English version released with the rest of the set on December 13, 2024.
- This is Buggy’s alternate art/foil version from OP09-051 and is treated by the market as a premium chase version.
- The card is associated with Cross Guild/The Four Emperors thematic identity in the set.
- A manga-rare version exists for this character in the same set family, making Buggy one of the more collectible cards from OP-09.
Collector notes
Condition. Check for edge whitening, corner wear, surface scratches in the foil and art box, print lines, centering, and whitening along the top/bottom borders. Alternate art foils are especially prone to small roller lines, holo scratching, and edge chipping from pack handling.
Storage. Store immediately in a penny sleeve and semi-rigid/toploader, ideally after centering/condition review. Use clean, dry, low-humidity storage, avoid direct light, and keep away from heat and friction. For premium copies, consider grading if the card is clean and well-centered.
Authenticity. Verify the exact card number OP09-051, English text, correct One Piece Card Game back, and proper Bandai print quality. Fakes often show blurry text, incorrect foil sheen, off-color borders, poor corner cutting, or incorrect font spacing. Compare against a known authentic copy and check for consistent texture and light reflection on the alternate-art foil.
