Market outlook
Stable Outlook 4/10
Overabundant supply balances steady nostalgia demand; prices for raw cards flat at $40-50, high-grade stable around $2,000-$3,000 with no major spikes.
Next months. Stable with minor fluctuations from sealed product openings
Long term. Stable to slight rise for gem mint grades due to aging supply attrition
History
Machamp is a four-armed Fighting-type Pokémon, the final evolution of Machop, known for its immense physical strength capable of punching boulders into the air and performing superhuman feats. It evolves from Machoke via trade and holds significance as an iconic early Pokémon representing raw power in the franchise.
First released in the Pokémon Base Set in January 1999 in the United States by Wizards of the Coast as part of the English TCG launch.
- Machamp was printed in massive quantities, well into the millions, primarily to meet demand for the 2-Player CD-ROM Starter Set.
- It defies typical rarity expectations for Base Set holos due to overabundant supply, leading to common misconceptions about its high value.
- All Machamp cards from the Base Set 2-Player Starter Set are 1st Edition, making the stamp ubiquitous and not adding premium value.

Collector notes
Condition. Check for centering issues, edge wear, surface scratches, and holo bleeding common from play wear without sleeves; look for print lines, whitening on edges, and cellophane wrapper remnants if sealed.
Storage. Store in card sleeves with top loaders or semi-rigid holders in a cool, dry environment away from sunlight; use binders for display but prioritize rigid protection for high-grade potential.
Authenticity. Verify 1st Edition stamp alignment and font; check for Wizards of the Coast copyright dot matrix pattern; fakes often have off-color holo patterns or blurry artwork; authenticate via graded population reports showing over 4,000 graded copies.
