Market outlook
Stable Outlook 7/10
Demand is supported by nostalgia and the enduring popularity of Charmander, but broad promo availability keeps the card from behaving like a true low-supply chase card. The stamped variant should continue to outperform the standard version.
Next months. Likely to remain range-bound with periodic spikes tied to graded pop talk, starter-Pokémon hype, and set nostalgia.
Long term. Likely modest appreciation over 1-3 years, with the best growth potential in high-grade copies and the Pokémon Center stamped variant.
History
Charmander is one of the original Kanto starter Pokémon introduced in the first generation of Pokémon, becoming an iconic franchise mascot known for its evolutionary line into Charmeleon and Charizard. Its popularity is driven by nostalgia, strong competitive and collectible appeal, and Charizard’s long-standing status as a chase card, which also lifts interest in Charmander cards.
This English promo full-art Charmander was first released in 2023 as part of the Scarlet & Violet Promo Cards / Black Star Promo lineup, tied to the Obsidian Flames Elite Trainer Box and its Pokémon Center stamp variant.
- Card number 044; a Black Star Promo-style release in the Scarlet & Violet era.
- Illustrated by MINAMINAMI Take; the artwork is a highly regarded full-art scene and a key reason for collector demand.
- There are two closely related versions collectors track: the standard promo and the Pokémon Center Exclusive stamped version.

Collector notes
Condition. Check for centering, surface scratches on the holo/full-art finish, edge whitening, corner dings, and print lines. The dark borders and reflective surface make scuffs and handling marks easy to see.
Storage. Use a penny sleeve plus semi-rigid or top-loader immediately, and store away from heat, humidity, and sunlight. For mint retention, avoid repeated handling and keep the card vertically stored with rigid support.
Authenticity. Look for crisp print quality, correct textures/foil pattern, and clean stamp placement on stamped copies. Counterfeits often have dull holo effects, blurry text, incorrect font spacing, or poor edge cutting; compare against known authentic copies and verify the card number, set mark, and stamp style carefully.
