Market outlook
Rising Outlook 7/10
The card benefits from strong character appeal, alt-art scarcity relative to base SR copies, and ongoing One Piece collector demand. Market data suggests active buying interest, though with sharp short-term volatility that can create temporary pullbacks.
Next months. Likely to remain volatile but supported, with raw copies fluctuating around current market levels and premium graded copies holding stronger floor support.
Long term. Likely gradual appreciation if One Piece collecting continues expanding, especially for clean graded examples. Long-term upside is strongest for gem-mint copies, while raw copies may stay more price-sensitive.
History
Shanks is one of the most important characters in One Piece, created by Eiichiro Oda. He is the captain of the Red-Haired Pirates, one of the Four Emperors (Yonko) of the sea, and a key early influence on Monkey D. Luffy. Shanks is known for his calm demeanor, overwhelming combat reputation, and symbolic role as a bridge between the beginning and end of Luffy's journey. In the card game, Shanks is a marquee character and a fan-favorite flagship leader/card subject, which drives collector demand well beyond normal SR expectations.
First released in the English One Piece Card Game set Emperors in the New World (OP09), which released on December 13, 2024. The alt-art version OP09-004 was introduced in that set as an alternate art Super Rare printing.

- Shanks is one of the most sought-after characters in One Piece collecting, so alt-art versions tend to outperform many other SR cards.
- Market data shows this card has experienced sharp volatility and a notable spike in raw near-mint sales, indicating strong speculative and collector interest.

Collector notes
Condition. Check centering, edge wear, corner whitening, surface scratches, holo print lines, and any pressure marks from pack sorting or sleeving. Alt-art foil cards commonly show micro-scratches and edge nicks that are visible under angled light. Pay close attention to the black/red borders and foil surface, as these reveal wear quickly.
Storage. Use clean sleeves immediately, then a semi-rigid holder or top loader for raw copies. For high-value copies, store in a penny sleeve plus top loader or card saver inside a cool, dry, low-light environment. Avoid rubber bands, loose boxes, and repeated handling of the foil surface.
Authenticity. Compare font, border thickness, foil pattern, and back-card color saturation against verified examples. Authentic cards should have consistent official One Piece Card Game print quality, sharp text, and uniform foiling. Look for signs of counterfeit surface texture, blurry text, off-color reds, and incorrect card stock stiffness. For graded or high-value purchases, buy from reputable sellers and prefer authenticated slabs when possible.
