Market outlook
Stable Outlook 7/10
The card has already established itself as a premium chase item, but modern supply and periodic re-listings usually keep the market from moving sharply in one direction for long. Demand should remain healthy because of the character's popularity and the set's flagship status.
Next months. Likely to trade in a relatively tight range with normal volatility; small dips on increased supply and spikes on strong buyer interest or low available inventory.
Long term. Over 1-3 years, well-graded copies should generally hold collector value, with gradual appreciation possible if One Piece Card Game continues expanding and the card remains a sought-after chase. Raw copies may be more price-sensitive than graded gems.
History
Buggy is a long-running antagonist and comic-relief rival from Eiichiro Oda's One Piece franchise. He is the captain of the Buggy Pirates, a former member of the Roger Pirates, and later becomes one of the Four Emperors through a combination of notoriety, alliances, and accidental reputation inflation. His significance in One Piece is both narrative and cultural: he is one of the series' most recognizable recurring villains, known for luck, deception, and unexpectedly high status.
First released in English with the One Piece Card Game set Emperors in the New World (OP-09), released December 13, 2024. The Japanese version was released earlier in the corresponding OP-09 product line.
- This is Buggy's Manga Rare / alternate-art style chase card from OP-09, one of the flagship hits of the set.
- Buggy is one of the Four Emperors in the One Piece story at this point in the card game's timeline, which increases character recognition and demand.
- Market listings and secondary-market references show both raw and graded demand, with graded 10 copies trading significantly above raw copies.
Collector notes
Condition. Check centering, corner whitening, edge chipping, surface scratches, and print lines, especially on the full-art foil surface. Manga-style cards often show visible edge wear on black/dark borders and micro-scratches under bright light. Grading-sensitive buyers should also watch for roller marks, dents, and foil scuffing from pack collation.
Storage. Store immediately in a perfect-fit sleeve and semi-rigid/toploader, keep away from humidity and heat, and use a non-PVC binder or graded slab for long-term protection. Avoid friction against other foils, and do not stack loose foils without sleeves.
Authenticity. Verify exact card number OP09-051, correct English set branding, and authentic One Piece Card Game print quality. Counterfeits may show blurry text, incorrect foil sheen, off-color borders, poor cut quality, or inconsistent texture. Compare the card's font, alignment, and holo pattern to verified examples, and favor sealed product, reputable sellers, or graded authentication for high-value copies.
