Market outlook
Rising Outlook 8/10
Demand is supported by the RX-78-2’s iconic status and by collector interest in first-number or one-of-one style premium cards. If the card is truly 001/001, scarcity should continue to drive attention.
Next months. Likely to remain highly sought after, with price support strongest among Gundam collectors and serial-number hunters.
Long term. If verified as a genuine 001/001 release, the card should hold strong collector value and may appreciate as the Gundam Card Game audience matures.
History
RX-78-2 Gundam is the original mobile suit from Mobile Suit Gundam (1979), the machine piloted primarily by Amuro Ray and created under the Earth Federation’s Project V. It is one of the most recognizable mecha in Japanese pop culture and serves as the franchise’s flagship symbol of the Gundam brand.
The card appears to correspond to the Gundam Card Game’s early English-language launch period, first shown publicly in the Edition Beta promotion in late 2024, with RX-78-2 included among the initial reveal cards for the game’s worldwide rollout in 2025.
- RX-78-2 is the iconic first Gundam and the template for many later Gundam designs.
- The card is associated with the English-language Gundam Card Game era introduced in late 2024 and launched worldwide in 2025.
- A 001/001 serial suggests a highly limited or unique promotional/serialized version rather than a standard mass-produced pack card.
Collector notes
Condition. Check for edge whitening, surface scratching on the holo/full-art layer, centering, corner dings, print lines, and any wear from handling or sleeving. Serialized or premium cards are especially sensitive to back-surface scuffs and manufacturing defects.
Storage. Store in a penny sleeve and rigid top loader or semi-rigid holder, keep away from humidity and direct light, and avoid repeated removal. For a high-end serialized card, consider archival-grade storage and graded encapsulation if mint.
Authenticity. Verify exact numbering, font consistency, holo pattern quality, and print registration. A true 001/001 card should show clean serial formatting and premium print finish; compare against official card game styling and known product images. Any unusual stock, blurry text, or off-color holography is a red flag.
